Creative Experments in Painting

Friends have offered many suggestions for this painting: “Adventure this way” “Peter Pan, Wendy and the Lost Boys” “Shelter from the Storm.”  The painting made itself know to me after I looked at the underpainting.  The painting appeared to me, and I completed it with negative painting.  There was no positive painting in this picture.

The second painting is of fairies and butterflies, the waterfall is positive painting, and the rest is negative painting.  This cowboy was a total surprise to me.  The under painting first revealed a cowboy hat, then I saw the collar.  Woolly chaps appeared.  The only positive painting was the cup of coffee and the fingers.  What a fun painting.

Copy of Boy’s Portrait in Museum

Hello Joanne and Marilyn,

I have attached a .pdf of the postcard for the exhibit in which the portrait of the little boy with raspberries on his fingers appears – it’s made quite a hit!

I have also attached an image of the portrait as it appears in the gallery. We have used a combination of original artifacts and reproductions to tell the story of how childhood has changed – and stayed the same – in American culture over the last four centuries. If you happen to be in the area during the summer and would like to visit the museum, please let me know and I will be sure to leave your name(s) at the reception desk so you can come in as our guest(s).

Author Kristen Huss as published a third book for young children.  It’s a book with simple prayers for very young children.  I will add a link as soon as it is available.  I illustrated the book with different animals familiar to young children.  Most of the animals are pets, and I think they are beautiful.
