About

Hi, I’m Marilyn.  I’m the lady in the picture above, a retired Social Worker in a cancer center.  As a Social Worker, I had the privilege of working with people in all conditions of life:  birth, joy, sorrow, conflict, problem-solving, decision-making, end-of-life, reconciliation, hope.

I began watercolor painting 5 years ago.  A self-taught artist, I’ve sketched people and scenery all my life.  Learning watercolor techniques is an ongoing process; by taking classes, workshops, and watching demos at Northstar Watercolor Society and Minnesota Watercolor Society .  Professional artists with whom I paint are my friends, encouragers and helpful critics.

My “niche” as a painter is capturing the personality of people and pets in paintings.  This may be seen in my portraits of adults, children and pets.  I also paint landscapes in the Minneapolis metro area plein aire (on location) weekly during the summer.  I have a realistic style, and my paintings often tell a story.

Life is such an adventure!  During 2011, my paintings include an abstracted background, with a recognizable subject in the foreground.  I also love to paint whimsical paintings, which I’ve done in the last few months.  As you browse through my paintings, you will see that I love to experiment and paint in different styles!

I would love to paint a commissioned piece for you.  I paint from photos, from my imagination, and even from suggestions by the client!

Enough for now. The adventure continues…!
