Babies & Children

Portraits of children can become increasingly dear as time goes by.   My paintings capture the personality, mood, or tell a story.   These

Hi Marilyn. Your paintings of children are amazing. One of my goals for the New Year is to learn how to paint children more successfully. I haven’t had a real good success ratio. Any hints? Do you paint most often from photos? Does it help if they are children you know personally? Thanks, Jeanne

I always use photographs, but usually sketch the child from the photo rather than copying the photograph. I didn’t know this child personally, and I don’t think it really makes a difference. I don’t know what you are having difficulty with, so I don’t know how to respond. I think getting the eyes aligned is one of the most important things. If you would like, you can e-mail me a portrait you may have questions about, and I will try to make some helpful suggestions. Marilyn
