Here are the various stages of a commissioned painting of a Maltese. I start with a sketch of the dog which has been enlarged to fit the size of painting desired. I lightly copy on watercolor paper through a lightbox. Then I begin to paint the shadows which give the dog shape. The features are added, and last the background.His personality shines through this portrait!
